His core specialization is in the area of
computer and communication networks, with emphasis on performance
modeling, analysis and optimization questions for the Internet and
wireless networks. The unifying theme of his research activities
is the design and analysis of solution approaches to optimize
usage of critical resources like bandwidth and energy in
wired/wireless networks, to attain maximum global network utility
or fair sharing of resources in the network.
Prof Ramakrishnan works on Network Architecture,
Protocols and Systems. His current research at UCR includes
networks for information dissemination (Information Centric
Networks), Software Based Networks - exploiting virtualization in
communication networks (Network Function Virtualization) and
Software Defined Networking. He also does work on Video delivery
and Internet of Things (IoT).
Prof Shafiq is mainly interested in measurement
and modeling of computer systems. His research is on a variety of
networking, security, and privacy topics. He likes to conduct
measurements of Internet-scale networked systems, analyze data to
draw insights, use machine learning and statistical tools to model
them, and design new approaches to improve their performance,
security, and privacy.
The following students are working in the IoT Nets project.
